I focused for several years on painting house portrait commissions while I was living in San Antonio, Texas. Whenever possible, I would start the painting on-site, en plein air, and then do the fine-tuning in my studio.

My favorite part of house portraiture was trying to create an intriguing, charming composition with each house. Sometimes this was a challenge as there were some houses that didn’t seem captivating right off the bat. But whether it’s capturing the house with morning light or framing it with an interesting foreground feature, there was always something I could do to make it a bit more inviting.
